Job Description
1. Job Purpose
The Assistant Resident Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for the supervision and technical oversight of mechanical works for Maintenance and Rehabilitation (M&R) projects. The role ensures that all mechanical installations, including gates, pumps, and hoisting systems, comply with design specifications and technical standards. The incumbent will act as a key on-site technical authority, coordinating between project teams, contractors, and the client to ensure the successful execution of irrigation system projects.
2. Key Responsibilities
Technical Supervision & Compliance:
- Supervise and monitor the implementation of all mechanical works on-site for M&R projects.
- Review design specifications and drawings to ensure all work is executed in compliance with established technical standards and project requirements.
- Oversee the installation, operation, testing, and maintenance of mechanical systems, including gates, gearing systems, lift pumps, and hoisting arrangements.
Project Management & Reporting:
- Prepare and submit detailed daily and weekly progress reports on mechanical works.
- Provide expert technical input and support for third-party inspection and evaluation activities.
- Identify and help resolve any technical or operational issues that arise during project execution.
Coordination & Communication:
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, civil teams, contractors, and client representatives to ensure seamless project integration and execution.
- Conduct site meetings and serve as the primary mechanical engineering point of contact on-site.
Quality & Safety Assurance:
- Ensure that all mechanical works adhere to quality assurance and control protocols.
- Promote and enforce strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
3. Qualifications & Experience
Educational Background:
- A B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant, hands-on experience in supervising and executing mechanical works for large-scale irrigation or water distribution systems.
- Must possess demonstrated expertise in the installation and maintenance of gates, gearing systems, lift pumps, and hoisting arrangements.
- Prior experience working on Maintenance and Rehabilitation (M&R) projects will be a significant added advantage.
