Job Description

1. Job Purpose

The DCS Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and optimal monitoring and control of refinery processes from the Central Control Room. Operating critical Distributed Control Systems (DCS) like Honeywell Experion or Emerson Deltav, the incumbent will ensure the continuous and reliable operation of key units, adhering to strict safety and environmental standards in a 24/7 high-hazard operational environment.

 

2. Key Responsibilities

Process Monitoring & Control:

  • Continuously monitor and operate refinery processes, specifically in the Gasoline Plant, including Isomerization (Isom), Naphtha Hydrotreater (NHT), and Platforming units via DCS.
  • Optimize process variables to maximize production efficiency, product quality, and yield.
  • Execute start-up, shut-down, and product change-over procedures as directed.

Alarm & Incident Management:

  • Promptly and effectively respond to system alarms, diagnose root causes, and take corrective actions to maintain process stability.
  • Troubleshoot control system and process abnormalities in coordination with field operators and maintenance teams.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study), LOTO (Lockout-Tagout), and PSM (Process Safety Management) standards.
  • Perform routine checks on control system instrumentation and report any discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed logbooks of operations, shifts, and any unusual occurrences.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with field operators, engineers, and maintenance personnel to ensure seamless communication and coordinated plant operations.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and procedures as required.

 

3. Qualifications & Experience

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience as a DCS Operator in a refinery or petrochemical plant.
  • Proven experience operating Honeywell Experion or Emerson Deltav DCS platforms is highly preferred.

Education & Training:

  • A Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related Process Technology field.
  • Formal DCS training and certification is required.

 

4. Required Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth understanding of refinery processes, particularly in Isomerization, NHT, and Platforming.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve control issues under pressure.
  • Safety Mindset: A rigorous commitment to safety protocols and procedures in a high-hazard environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous in monitoring complex data and systems to preempt issues.
  • Communication: Clear and effective communication skills for seamless shift handover and team coordination.
  • Resilience: Ability to work effectively in a 24/7 shift environment, managing high-stress situations.

 

5. Working Conditions

  • This role involves working in a 24/7 shift rotation in a high-hazard process plant environment.
  • Strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) and all site safety rules is mandatory.
